You found our practice, saw the word biointegrative dentistry, and paused. It sounds like either a mouthful of jargon or one more wellness buzzword. Maybe you're wondering whether it means skipping proven treatment, or whether it's a fancy label for the same cleaning and checkup you'd get anywhere. Before you trust anyone with your teeth, you want to know what the word actually changes when you're in the chair.
Biointegrative dentistry means I treat your mouth as part of your body, not as a row of separate teeth. Before I fix a tooth or plan a new smile, I look at what's going on around it: your gums and the bacteria in them, your bite and jaw, your saliva, and the health history that affects all three. Then I choose the most conservative treatment that solves the real cause. It uses the same proven, evidence-based dentistry you'd expect. What changes is the order of questions I ask and how much of you I'm looking at.

Here's the idea in one sentence. What happens in your mouth doesn't stay in your mouth.
Gum disease starts with swollen, red, bleeding gums, and most people are told that's normal. It isn't. Bleeding gums are an open door. Oral bacteria and the inflammation they cause can get into the bloodstream, and that inflammation is linked to heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. It may not be the single direct cause, but it can help set the stage for problems elsewhere in the body.
So when I see inflamed gums, I'm not only thinking about your teeth. I'm thinking about your heart, your blood sugar and the rest of you. That's the core of it. It's not just cosmetic dentistry. It's total body wellness dentistry.
This is how biointegrative dentistry shows up in an ordinary exam at Redefine Dental Aesthetic and Wellness Center.
1. Your gums and the bacteria behind them. Two mouths with the same bleeding can have different bacteria driving it. Salivary testing shows which bacteria are present and how well your saliva protects your teeth. That tells me whether a cavity problem or a gum problem needs a cleaning, a change at home, or something more.
2. Your bite and your jaw. I trained at the Kois Center, and I now mentor its graduates. The Kois approach is function first: how your teeth meet, how your jaw moves, and whether you grind decide the plan before tooth color and shape do. Worn, flat or chipped teeth, a sore jaw in the morning, headaches at the temples: those often trace back to the bite. If that's you, TMJ treatment or a night guard may matter more than anything cosmetic.
3. Your saliva and your health history. Saliva is your mouth's built-in protection. Some medications reduce it, and less saliva means teeth wear and decay faster. Diabetes changes how gums heal. Snoring and waking up tired can point to sleep apnea, which a dentist can sometimes spot. I ask about all of it because it changes what I recommend.
A lot of dentistry marketed as "natural" worries me. Some of it is vague, and some of it isn't backed by science. That's not what I practice.
Biointegrative care doesn't mean avoiding X-rays, fillings, crowns or anything else that's proven to work. It means using them with more thought. Three principles guide every plan:
People are sometimes surprised that a wellness-first practice does porcelain veneers, bonding, whitening and Invisalign. We do, and the biointegrative part is what keeps those results looking natural for the long run.
Before any cosmetic work, I make sure the gums are healthy and the bite can handle it. A veneer placed against inflamed gums tends to collect plaque at the edge, and years later you see a dark line where porcelain meets gum. I'm not willing to hand anyone a smile they cannot keep clean.
Planning starts with photos of your smile and face, and old pictures of you help when you have them. I run the photos through smile design software so you see a preview of your potential new smile on screen before anything is done. It's a preview, not a promise. For veneers, you then wear temporary veneers to try out the look and feel before the final porcelain is made. The goal is a smile that looks like you on a good day: real translucency at the edges, a tooth color that suits your face, nobody able to tell.

Your first visit is a conversation as much as an exam. Expect questions about your health, your medications, how you sleep and what bothers you about your teeth. I'll look at your gums, your bite and your existing dental work, and take the photos and X-rays I need to see the whole picture.
Then I'll walk you through what I found, in plain words, and what I'd do first. Often that's settling the gums or protecting the bite before anything cosmetic. If you want to understand where this way of planning comes from, I've written about the Kois philosophy, and you can read more about my training and our practice.
